Library Services During Temporary Closure

The physical location of the library has to unfortunately be closed from June 19 until the start of October due to construction work on the ceilings and floors.
All books must be packed away into storage and will be unavailable for loan during this time.

Borrowing

Before the temporary closure on June 19, patrons can borrow books that are available on the shelf, but after Monday June 8 it will no longer be possible to reserve books on loan by other patrons. We will help with renewing loans whenever possible.

Reading List Books (Pensum)

In Volda you can buy books from your course reading lists at the Norli bookstore, as well as various online bookstores.
At Allvit you can rent or buy a number of Norwegian language books from reading lists in e-book format. Once the library reopens in October, we will have reading list titles and other books available for loan.

How to Reach Us?

  • Pop-up Library from August 25: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 2pm, the library will offer a pop-up library help desk located in front of the library where you can talk to us and ask questions.
  • E-mail: Send e-mails to skranke@hivolda.no, and you will get a quick response. You can also request for us to call you if you're not in Volda and would prefer to talk to someone rather than communicate in writing.

Book Returns

We have a Book Returns box outside the library, and during summer vacation a Returns box will also be located by the entry to BK (library side). Remote students can also ask staff at their local library in Norway to send books they have borrowed back to us in Volda.

Digital Books and Journal Articles

Even when it isn't possible to borrow physical books, we still have many e-books and online journal articles available.
These can be found by searching in our online catalogue Oria.

Group Rooms and Study Spaces

Group rooms and study spaces in the library are not available during this period. In Mazemap, you can find an overview of group rooms and study spaces/study areas elsewhere on campus (select different floors in the menu on the right). There are also more study spaces in the Berte Kanutte building on the 2nd floor up the stairs from the cafeteria.
