The VUC campus has a lot to offer, even though it is compact and everything is within walking distance.

Over the last couple of years a lot has happened on our campus - new buildings have been constructed and old buildings renovated to modern standards.

Cafeteria, Student services, IT-help and Library

At the heart of campus is the Berte Kanutte-building (BK). Here you will find the main cafeteria offering a varied and tasty selection of hot and cold dishes. The cafeteria is also one of the many social places for students where you may hang out between or after classes.

Next to the cafeteria you will find important service desks such as IT-help and the Student services. This is where students go when they have IT-problems or questions regarding their studies.

The Library is a beautiful gem on campus, a cosy and inviting area with plants and comfortable furniture. It is a place to relax, hang-out, learn and discuss, and of course to get help from the knowledgeable librarians on duty.

Students can take advantage of group rooms and the study halls in the library. There are work spaces in open landscapes and in quiet zones. The library also includes an academic guidance desk staffed twice a week. At this desk students get help with assigments, research methods, finding sources, and more. The library also offers specific courses in academic writing and research. Students can access the library from morning to midnight with their student cards. At the moment the library is being renovated and will open again in the autumn of 2026.

Right next to the library you'll find the offices for the Student parliament. Read more about student politics at VUC here.

Læringsverkstaden (makers space) and Pangaia

In the middle of the BK building your find the digital makers space Læringsverkstaden. Directly translated it means learning workshop, and the objective is to offer students a space where they can experiment and get help with digital tools for their studies or future professional career.

In the makers space you can borrow equipments such as 3D-printers, VR-goggles, cameras, digital games, as well as, programming- and design-equipment. Stop by Læringsverkstaden to chat with the student assistants and to find out what it can offer you.

Right next to Læringsverkstaden, in the middle of the BK-building is also where you will find Pangaia. Pangaia is a hub and meeting place for international and Norwegian students. In addition to being a physical meeting place, Pangaia also coordinates a lot of social events such as Food & culture nights, Christmas workshops, hikes, bonfires, and much more. Pangaia is a part of the International Office at VUC and takes especially good care of our international students.

Modern media building with industry standard equipment

Volda University College has a separate building for the media programmes - the Sivert Aarflot-building – which we are particularly proud of. The media house opened in 2021 and contains world-class media facilities and industry standard equipment.

In the media building you will find many special rooms and labs connected to the media programmes, such as a radio studio, TV-studio, photo studio, editing suites, future classroom lab, drawing boards and pads for animation students and PC/MAC-labs.

Our media programmes are renowned in Norway for being practically oriented and enabling students to go straight into the industry after graduation. This is possible because we have the same equipment as used by the media industry and because we provide ample opportunities for students to practice. Students can borrow cameras, microphones, editing suites and other equipment and learn through trial and error both for their course work and for voluntary work with student media in their free time.

You will find that most media students are active in student media also outside of class (Student-TV, Student-radio and Student-magazine). These organisations provides students opportunities to get practical experience and build their portfolios. Even though it is not a part of the course work, the media building includes a separate studio for the Student-radio which is run by and for students.

Students love the open spaces

From the media building (Sivert Aarflot-house) you can walk indoors to the Hans Strøm-building, which was newly renovated and now offers top modern learning spaces and social areas. Students love the new social zones and work spaces that has been set up on the ground floor.

In the Hans Strøm-building you can find areas for group-work or individual study and there are lots of different zones to choose from. There are even hammocks for you to enjoy while reading a book or listening to a podcast.

In this building there are also dubbing studios, recording studios and an animation workshop in the basement.

Workshops, theater stage and consert hall, music lab and rehearsal rooms

When you step inside the Henrik Kaarstad-building you are in historic grounds. The venerable yellow building is more than 100 year old and was originally the teacher training college that was the very beginning of Volda University College. This building was also renovated some years ago and, although the facade and exterior is original, the inside is top modern and new.

Adjoined to the Henrik Kaarstad-building is the new Kaarstad building. Here you will find richly equipped workshops for design, arts and crafts. There are separate zones for textile, wood, clay, and more digital tools.

In this building there are also two theatre stages where drama students can develop their skills and set up plays for local children or fellow students. In order to make the best possible shows, a make-up and prop room is found next to the stages. Next door, the music students frequently performs in the consert hall, both for an audience and for regular course work. Music students also have access to several band rooms, rehearsal rooms, a music lab, recording studio, dubbing studio and listening room.

Excellent opportunities for sports and training

Accross the road from the Henrik Kaarstad-building is the sports hall Idrettsbygget. This place bustles with activities througout the week - both in the daytime and in the evenings. During the day, students have classes in sports and physical education. In addition to the main hall, there are gyms with various equipments and weights, a new 40 meter track, and a lab where you for example can measure your O2 uptake.

During the autumn of 2026 we will also open a brand new gym for member of VSI - Volda studentidrettslag (student sports). This gym will contain all you need to keep fit. Membership in VSI is quite inexpensive.

During the evenings, you can join VSI sports and choose from activities such as volleyball, futsal, handball, badminton, table tennis and dance.

Jump from school to the pool

In addition, the VUC campus is right next to the new aquatic arena Voldabadet. So when your school day is over, you can just cross the parking lot to Voldabadet and jump into the pool or the outdoor jacuzzi.

Voldabadet is joined together with the main sports arena Volda Campus Sparebank 1 Arena (VCA). VCA is a large sports hall with many functions and has been a complement to the campus since 2020. In VCA you will find vollayball and handball practice at elite national level. The arena has hosted national games in both sports recently and it has also proven to be a venue where our meda students get experience with sports coverage.

At the south end of VCA is the large climbing wall where you can test your climbing skills. The climbing hall enables you to try out rope climbing and bouldering.
