The Bygdepride Award to Volda University College

A proud Rector, Odd Helge Mjellem Tonheim, accepted the 2026 Bygdepride Award on behalf of Volda University College (VUC). The award is presented annually to “a person, institution, company or organisation that has made an outstanding contribution to improving the position of LGBTQ+ people in our community.”

In its statement, Bygdepride highlighted that Volda University College has been an active and important supporter ever since the festival began nine years ago, and that the institution serves as a role model for inclusion.

– This award is a great tribute to all the students and staff at our university college. This is your award!, Rector Mjellem Tonheim said after the ceremony.

Bygdepride

At the beginning of May each year, Bygdepride leaves its mark on Volda, the university college, and the surrounding communities through a wide range of events and activities. This year, staff from VUC took part with the concept “Text and Thought” at Rokken, and the pride shop had a permanent stand at the university college throughout Pride Week.

The Bygdepride parade through Volda – a major celebration of diversity, inclusion, and love for everyone – was once again a highlight for students and staff at Volda University College.
